What Do Your New Year’s Plans Say About You?

You Are Nostalgic

You generally seek whatever is cozy and comforting. And nothing is cozier than a night in when it’s cold outside.
You are happy to take it easy on New Year’s Eve and reflect upon the year that has passed.
Your attitude for the new year is one of comfort, caring, and compassion.
Your new year will bring a few new memories of its own to cherish for the rest of your life.

This is one of the results from the quiz, What Do Your New Year’s Plans Say About You?

*****

No going out for me on NYE.  It’s just too dangerous.  And if I was having a party, it would be with the intent that all my guests would be there for breakfast in the morning.  No driving!

What has caused it?

A drunk man who smelled like a beer sat down on a subway seat next to a priest.

The man’s tie was stained, his face was smeared with red lipstick, and a half empty bottle of gin was sticking out of his torn coat pocket. He opened his newspaper and began to read. After a few minutes the man turned to the priest and asked ‘Say Father, what causes arthritis?’ The priest replies ‘My son, it’s caused by loose living, being with cheap wicked women, too much alcohol and contempt for your fellow man’ ‘Well I’ll be darned’ the drunk muttered, returning to his newspaper.

The priest thinking about what he said, nudged the drunk and apologized. ‘I’m sorry to come on so strong. How long have you had arthritis?’

‘I don’t have it, Father. I was just reading here that the Pope does.’

Luke 2:11-14

Luke 2:11-14“Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.” Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.””

What Does Your Christmas Tree Say About You?

You Are Serene

You like to party and live it up during the holidays. This is a time to be festive and celebrate.
You are resourceful, quirky, and artsy. You like something that’s a bit outside the norm. You aren’t traditional.
You like your holiday decor to have personal meaning. Your ornaments and decorations each tell a story.
This holiday season you are grateful and spiritual. You are tapping into the deeper meaning of the holidays.

This is one of the results from the quiz, What Does Your Christmas Tree Say About You?

*****

Well now.  I like for my TREE to party, but not me personally.  And in fact, I’ve even used that term for my tree – years ago I found tinsel in several different colors and used them all on the white tree I had, and claimed it looked like a party going on.  🙂  But me, myself, and I are quite content without large social gatherings.  Smaller, more intimate situations are much preferred.

That’ll Be Fine

A recent transplant to the mountains of North Carolina writes: The folks around these parts have a peculiarity that drives me nutty. You ask them an “either/or” question, and their answer is– “That’ll be fine!”

I asked a lady the other night who was coming through my register at Wal-Mart, “Ma’am, would you like your milk in a bag or not?”

“That’ll be fine,” was her reply.

I looked quizzically at her, and asked, “Does that mean ‘yes’ or ‘no’?”

“I said that that’ll be fine,” was her answer. Since I was holding it up in my hand, out of a bag, I decided to assume that “that” in this case meant “that naked jug of milk that you’re holding in your hand, not in a bag.”

This feeling was further reinforced by a slight nod of the head towards the jug just as she said the word “that’ll.” I set the jug in the buggy without putting it in a sack.

“I said I wanted it in a bag,” she complained. “You want me to shout it or write it down for you?

“That’ll be fine!” I replied.

Hahahaha!

Monday Musings

I want to be a better journalist.  Um, I mean, someone who keeps up with their personal journal in a much better way than I do now.  I was rather proficient at it when I was a teen, but I stopped when I turned 18, thinking that adults didn’t keep diaries like little girls.  Yeah. So. I was wrong.

But getting back into the habit has been really hard.  You’d think just pick up a pen and write, but no.  I’ve learned a couple things about myself.  One, never sing where anyone else can hear me; and two, I prefer my journaling almost equally private.

As a kid with a working mother, I had lots of alone time.  As a stay-at-home mom who homeschools her kids, in a small apartment, there is no such thing as “alone time.”  For the record, I wouldn’t trade that for the world, but I do need to figure out how to adapt to the way things are right now in a way that I can feel more comfortable.

While my goal is to journal with pen and paper, I also want to have a digital form, too.  Good grief, there are a lot of diary apps out there!  I wanted something that synced across the web and my devices – those seem to cost money.  I really like WriteADay (rainbows!) but it doesn’t sync or have a web version.  😦

I downloaded Journey journal to my computer, after checking it out on my tablet, and promptly got hit with a payment button, so I uninstalled it.  It looks awesome, I just wasn’t willing to pay.

Journal It seems to have a lot of great features, but doesn’t seem to have a web version.

I know I can’t type on my devices to save my life, but I can add a picture or a couple of words (word suggestions help!), which is why I also wanted a web version so I could type – all this in addition to a pen and paper journal.

No, I don’t ask for much.  😉

Know what I ended up doing?

WordPress.  Yep, I made a totally private blog.  I can add to it from any of my devices AND my computer, everything gets synced automatically, I can add tags and photos, all the entries are dated, and geo-tagged if I want, and it’s free!  FTW!  Plus, I can change the themes at my whim, which means I can do different colors (rainbows!).  If I wanted to, I could even share an entry with someone if I was struggling with something and wanted a little feedback.

All that remains is some discipline (I think that’s going to be my word of the year for 2019).  I have a lot of things planned for 2019, but they all center around that.

So, that thousand mile journey just got one step shorter.  😉

And how was your Monday?

What’s Your Christmas Color?

When you decorate for Christmas, you go classy and coordinated. You don’t believe in holiday clutter.
Your Christmas style tends to be subtle and sophisticated. If anything, you like to celebrate the theme of winter and the whole season.

You have no problem with tradition, but you are likely to switch things up from year to year. You prefer a modern holiday that is on trend.
You believe that you can have a great Christmas without going overboard. It’s all those little touches that make things special.

*****

Yes, blue.  Pale, cyan blue.  🙂  And also pale pink!  I suppose if I could decorate Christmas however I wanted, it would look more like a baby shower than anything else.  And maybe that makes a weird sort of sense now that I think about it.  While I don’t believe Christ was born in December, it does tend to be when we celebrate the fact that He was born.

Now I have just fully discovered a way to totally justify pastel pink and blue for Christmas!  FTW!

A Second Opinion

Ever since I was a child, I’ve always had a fear of someone under my bed at night. So I went to a shrink and told him: “I’ve got problems. Every time I go to bed I think there’s somebody under it. I’m scared. I think I’m going crazy.”

“Just put yourself in my hands for one year” said the shrink. “Come talk to me three times a week and we should be able to get rid of those fears.”

“How much do you charge?”

“Eighty dollars per visit,” replied the doctor.

“I’ll sleep on it,” I said.

Six months later the doctor met me on the street. “Why didn’t you come to see me about those fears you were having?” he asked.

“Well, eighty bucks a visit, three times a week for a year, is $12,480. A bartender cured me for $10.00.”

“Is that so?” With a bit of an attitude he said, “And how, may I ask, did a bartender cure you?”

“He told me to cut the legs off the bed.  Ain’t nobody under there now.”

*****

Now that’s one smart bartender!  I just shoved a bunch of boxes under my bed.  No room for anyone to hide under there!

Have a wonderful weekend!

What’s Your Winter Scent?

Your Winter Scent is Cranberry

You are multifaceted and difficult to pin down. You have eclectic tastes, and you surprised everyone – including yourself.
You are a realist, and sometimes you can be a bit hard to handle on your own. You need someone sweet to balance you out.
You are honest – sometimes to a fault. You aren’t as sour as you seem, and you are strongly bonded to your friends.
Deep down, you are a traditionalist at heart. You like to keep things simple and get back to what matters most in life.

Assertiveness Training

A man was tired of being bossed around by his wife, so he went to a psychiatrist. The psychiatrist said he needed to build his self-esteem and gave him a book on assertiveness, which he read on the way home.

The man stormed into the house and walked up to his wife. Pointing a finger in her face, he said, “From now on, I want you to know that I am the man of this house, and my word is law! I want you to prepare me a gourmet meal tonight, and when I’m finished eating my meal, I expect a sumptuous dessert afterward. Then, after dinner, you’re going to draw me my bath so I can relax. And, when I’m finished with my bath, guess who’s going to dress me and comb my hair?”

“The funeral director,” his wife replied.

What Season is Your Soul Connected To?

You approach life with a zen-like calm that other people envy. Nothing rattles you.
You are smart, thoughtful, and very serious. You don’t stress out, but you don’t take much lightly.

You like to keep to yourself, and you’ve been called shy – even if you don’t consider yourself that way.
You prefer a cozy, quiet life filled with ideas, books, and maybe a few friends.

*****

Oh I dunno, I feel like everything rattles me, I just don’t show it very much.  Never let ‘em see you sweat.  😉
