Topics: Destiny
Today, my word for the week is Destiny.
I can’t even see that word now without thinking of my kids. For us, Destiny is a video game. My kids have been avid players for about two years now. I mean, we have some homemade Destiny type costumes, we have some Destiny artwork, Destiny clothes, Destiny posters on their walls, stickers for their game console – even my husband plays sometimes. Destiny is big at my place. We even keep up with Destiny news in the gamer magazines. Everyone even mimics some of the character voices and expressions on occasion. Yes, even I will pop off with a line every so often. 
Destiny has brought our family together in a few ways. It’s given my husband a great way to spend time with the kids doing something they love, and there have been plenty of times that we’ve spent just watching the kids play instead of watching a movie, since the game can be so interactive and immersive.
As for destiny in the sense of predetermination, I don’t think I believe in that. I do believe the future is known, but not that our actions are outside of our control. It’s a bit hard to explain, I guess. Me knowing you are going to click the red X button when you’re done reading, does not mean I’m making you click the red X button. I just know you will. Does that help? That’s basically my view on it.

Two bright young engineers applied for the same position at a computer company. Since they had identical qualifications, the company asked the two applicants to take a ten-question test. At the conclusion of the test, one of the applicants was called into the manager’s office.
“I have graded the test, and you both scored nine correct answers and got one answer wrong. Thank you for your interest, but we’ve decided to give the job to the other applicant.”
“And why would you choose him if we both got nine questions correct?” asked the rejected applicant.
“We have based our decision not on the correct answers, but on the question you missed,” said the Department manager.
“And just how would one incorrect answer be better than the other?” the rejected applicant inquired.
“Simple,” said the Department manager, “The other gentleman answered Question #5, ‘I don’t know.’ Your answer to Question #5 was, ‘Neither do I.'”

Didja ever wonder …
what makes some people think they are morally superior to other people?
I mean, I honestly think it’s a part of the human condition, but I kind of wonder, what makes some people think they know better than other people what’s best for those other people?
Who decides?
On what do they base their authority?
When I was a little girl, there was a little plaque thing in the house, a joke thing – it read, “Those of you who think you know everything annoy the hell out of those of us who do.”
I always laughed, and I never forgot it (obviously, duh! lol) and even at 6 suspected that somehow the words came from me, that they were supposed to come from everyone who read it, because everyone seems to think that way.
And I wondered where that comes from. Aside from human arrogance, I mean. Or, is that the whole of it, human arrogance?
At some point though, don’t people realize that they really don’t know everything? And once you know that, how in the world can you think you know what’s best for someone else? Knowing what’s best for your own bad self is hard enough!
Things that make me go, “hmm.”

A Day in the Life of Larry
A new teacher was trying to make use of her psychology courses. She started her class by saying, ‘Everyone who thinks they’re stupid, stand up!’ After a few seconds, Little Larry stood up.. The teacher said, ‘Do you think you’re stupid, Larry?’ ‘No, ma’am, but I hate to see you standing there all by yourself!’
Larry watched, fascinated, as his mother smoothed cold cream on her face. ‘ Why do you do that, mommy?’ he asked. ‘To make myself beautiful,’ said his mother, who then began removing the cream with a tissue.’ What’s the matter, asked Larry ‘Giving up?’
Larry’s kindergarten class was on a field trip to their local police station where they saw pictures tacked to a bulletin board of the 10 most wanted criminals.
One of the youngsters pointed to a picture and asked if it really was the photo of a wanted person. ‘Yes,’ said the policeman. ‘The detectives want very badly to capture him. Larry asked,”Why didn’t you keep him when you took his picture ? ”
